BYRON SAMUELS
A former student athlete at UNC-Asheville, a team captain, MVP and All Conference performer. Byron is a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend. Coach Samuels has used his vast experiences to coach, mentor and lead student athletes for almost 30 years. A 12 year-head coach, 10 years at the DI level, Byron has also worked as an assistant in the SEC, Pac-12, and Big East Conference and he spent a year working for the National Basketball Association in The Republic of China. A player’s coach who is recognized for success in academic development, student athlete success and team building, Byron has the heart of teacher.
Byron’s commitment to service is evident is his work with various charities, including the Special Olympics, Kids Across America, Metropolitan Ministries, Huddle Touch Ministries, and the Boys and Girls Club. Ordained in 2011 as a Deacon at Central Tampa Baptist Church, Byron has worked as an area representative for FCA, has been involved with Athletes in Action Ministry. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from UNCA, and a Master of Arts degree in Education from Western Carolina University. He founded “THINK” A.H.E.A.D. USA as a way to mentor young people. Byron has been married 26 years and has two children.
